How companies work with me

Senior leadership without a full-time executive hire. Each engagement starts from the same question: what is actually stopping revenue from growing, and who on the team can fix it with the right direction?

  • Fractional CMO

Part-time marketing leadership that sets strategy, runs the team and reports to the CEO. Also available as cover for parental leave, so the team keeps its pace.

  • Go-to-market strategy

Case studies

Four decisions that changed a company's growth curve: what I saw, what we did about it and what happened next.

Owning the webinar channel until it owned the category

CI HUB, CMO / Director of Revenue
What I saw
Buyers in the vertical had to hunt across platforms to find useful webinars. That fragmentation was the opening: whoever owned the channel would own the conversation.
What we did
Positioned CI HUB as the industry's meeting place, not just a tool. We bought 90% of the available webinar inventory in the vertical and built a recurring series around it.
What happened
The series became the category standard and produced 60% of qualified leads. CI HUB reached 50% market share, with a distribution advantage that held for years.

Turning DAM partners into a sales channel

CI HUB, CMO / Director of Revenue
What I saw
CI HUB's buyers already lived inside their DAM. The partners who sold and ran those systems had the trust and the access. CI HUB just needed them to talk about it.
What we did
Took over the full podcast series from a top supplier in the DAM market and turned it into a stage for CI HUB partners to show how their customers succeed with their DAM and CI HUB together. Alongside it, we built a partner sales club and partner dinners.
What happened
Partners became a direct route to market, selling CI HUB straight to their own DAM users with customer stories they had told themselves on air.

A complete relaunch in four days

Cyberwrite, rebrand and repositioning
What I saw
The positioning had gone stale and buyers were confused about what set the product apart. A six-month rebrand would have missed the window.
What we did
Rebrand and reposition in four days, ship it, and let the market validate it rather than a committee.
What happened
A cross-functional team shipped the new brand, messaging, website and launch in four days. The speed itself became proof that the company could move.

One revenue team instead of three

Morpher Labs, Fractional VP Growth
What I saw
Marketing, product and sales were running on conflicting metrics. Left alone, those silos would have capped revenue.
What we did
Merged them into one outcome-focused revenue team: shared OKRs, aligned compensation, one forecast and a weekly shipping rhythm.
What happened
Decisions three times faster, retention up 30%, platform investment up 50% and ICP acquisition up 400%.

Anticipate. Architect. Execute.

Find the ceiling early

Most growth ceilings show up in pipeline, retention and win-rate data long before they show up in revenue. I look for them early and fix them while they are still cheap.

Own strategy and tactics

Strategy and tactics are one job. I set the direction and I know which channels, campaigns and comp plans will carry it, because I have run them myself.

Ship weekly, measure outcomes

Small aligned teams that ship every week beat large teams that meet every month. I measure outcomes, not activity, and I stay close enough to the work to see both.

Where B2B growth is heading

Five shifts I am planning around with every client right now. More on each in the Electric Railway blog.

  • AI is collapsing the linear funnel

Buyers research with AI assistants and arrive half-decided. Teams that adapt in real time win deals that fixed quarterly playbooks never see.

  • Distribution is the new differentiation

When products look alike, the company that owns the channel, whether webinars, communities or partners, owns the category.

  • Speed compounds

A four-day relaunch beats a six-month planning cycle when the market is moving. Velocity is a competitive advantage you can build.

  • Brand is a performance channel

Recognition lowers the cost of every deal that follows. Build for it deliberately, then let performance data prove it.

  • Revenue teams should work like product teams

The fastest-growing teams obsess over usage, retention and expansion, not just new logos.

Questions about hiring a fractional CMO in Vienna

Straight answers to what founders and CEOs usually ask first.

Who is Nick Stein?

Nick Stein is a Vienna-based fractional CMO and revenue leader with more than 20 years in B2B SaaS. He has led marketing and revenue at Cloudprinter, Morpher Labs, CI HUB, Cyberwrite, Anyline, indoo.rs, iPoint and Ogilvy, and runs the marketing consultancy Electric Railway.

What does a fractional CMO do?

A fractional CMO is a senior marketing leader who works with a company part-time or for a fixed period. They set marketing and go-to-market strategy, lead the existing team, fix the revenue process between marketing and sales, and report to the CEO, without the cost of a full-time executive hire.

When should a company hire a fractional CMO instead of a full-time CMO?

A fractional CMO fits when a company needs senior marketing leadership now but cannot yet justify or find a full-time executive: before or between funding rounds, while recruiting a permanent CMO, during parental leave cover, or when growth has stalled and the strategy needs an outside reset. The first 30, 60 and 90 days of a fractional CMO explains what the start looks like.

What results has Nick Stein delivered?

As interim CRO/CMO at Cloudprinter he beat revenue goals by 30%. At Morpher Labs he grew ICP acquisition by 400% and retention by 30%. At CI HUB he took the company to 50% market share. At iPoint (KERP) a SaaS repositioning grew the customer base 80x and added 2.5M in new business. At Anyline he supported a 12M funding round and built a media center for webinars and podcasts, and at Ogilvy he activated 130 markets.

Does Nick Stein work with companies outside Austria?

Yes. Nick is based in Vienna and works with international teams. His roles have covered European and global markets, including launching Printing Labs globally for Cloudprinter and international marketing at iPoint.
